Worship of Lord Shiva
A Gallery

Lord Shiva, whose nature is Consciousness and Love, embodies the supreme Truth. His devotees worship Him in countless ways. One classic way to perform worship is to hold an image of Lord Shiva in one's mind.

As our attention becomes established on a visual representation of Shiva, our awareness is drawn inward. There, in the serenity and silence of the heart, Shiva resides—formless and transcendent. Merging with the Lord, we come to know Him as our own true Self.

As you explore this gallery, take a moment to allow the images to lead your awareness inward. Upon reflection, you may wish to share your experience with others.

The beautiful images in this gallery launched my senses to a space beyond myself—beyond my tidy house in the deep of winter, out beyond the boundaries of my body—reminding me that we are all part of a vast universe of miraculous grace.

Thank you, Gurumayi.

In the past few days, my wife and son have been making clay sculptures of animals and people. While I thought it would be nice to do something like that, I felt that I really do not have any artistic talent.

Today, on Mahashivaratri, while viewing the photo of the black Shiva lingam with the jasmine flowers in the gallery, the thought came to me that I would like to make a sculpture of a Shiva lingam. A feeling of delight also arose within me. A few minutes later, I shared this thought with my wife. She said, “Why don’t you do it now?” and gave me a block of blue clay.

A few minutes later, I had made a small blue Shiva lingam—my first artistic creation.

Thank you, Gurumayi, for awakening an artistic side in me.

I love this gallery. I became very quiet while taking it in. I felt I was experiencing Lord Shiva’s greatness in the subtle beauty of each photo. I also felt I could sense the photographers’ love and reverence for their subjects.

I intend to carry this quiet reverence with me now.
