I understand from this verse that when I am established in peace as a result of controlling my mind, my heart too is established in peace, and in that moment the pure bliss of the Self arises.
This is true for me, as I have learned on this path to connect to the peace within, even when situations outside myself may be contrary, just as the bottom of the ocean is peaceful and still, even when a storm rages on its surface.

Ever since I listened to Gurumayi’s Message for 2018, I have been trying to pay attention to all the situations that disturb my inner peace. I realize that all the unwanted suffering and worries that I try to prevent come because I am sometimes controlled by my mind, which in turn is under the control of my fluctuating thoughts.  Fortunately, Gurumayi has given me a paradoxically simple path to achieve peace: satsang. I now understand that peace comes from within me. As long as I go within and connect to my inner Self, nothing disturbs my peace—an inner state that doesn’t focus on the absence of trouble and is unrelated to my ever-changing life circumstances.
Anchored in this inner peace, I can breathe easefully and enjoy this gift from God.

From time to time I need to hear an exhortation like this one from Vasishtha — a reminder to enjoy the fruits of my own self-effort. When my mind and heart arrive at a place of peace, through practices such as meditation or mantra repetition, it’s good to rest a moment and to savor the delight of that state. In fact, if I pay attention to it, I notice that this delight flows like a river, from my heart back out into my life, and is reflected in all that I perceive. Recognizing this brings me even more peace. It’s like a delicious circle that reinforces itself over and over again, and it truly is a very enjoyable state!
