PRASAD Project

young girlThe PRASAD Project is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organization, dedicated to providing services for children, families, and communities in need. PRASAD's mission is to uplift and foster self-reliance for those living in conditions of poverty.

The SYDA Foundation wholeheartedly supports PRASAD's work, PRASAD's humanitarian work was originally inspired by Bhagawan Nityananda in the 1930s when he offered food and care to local villagers in the Tansa Valley of India. The PRASAD Project was initiated in 1992 by Gurumayi Chidvilasananda.

Today, PRASAD has created innovative programs in the areas of medical care, dental care, eye care, nutrition, education and community development. These programs are geared to remove physical challenges and hardships for those who live in conditions of poverty. As a result, each person can live a life of improved quality and enhanced self-reliance with hopeful anticipation of a healthier, more fulfilling future.

Philanthropic Relief

From the Greek philo (loving) and anthropo (human), philanthropic means "love of humankind." Relief is derived from the French relever (to uplift).

Philanthropic relief reflects PRASAD's efforts to ease suffering and uplift humanity through acts of generosity and loving support.

Altruistic Service

From the Latin alter (other), altruism refers to unselfish concern for the welfare of others.

By acting without selfish motives, and by serving others with respect, PRASAD affirms the inherent dignity of all people.

And Development

Synonyms for development are growth, expansion, evolution, unfolding.

Development is key because PRASAD not only brings relief from suffering due to adverse circumstances, but aims to build self-reliance so program recipients can play a more vital role in the sustainable growth of their communities.
