Birthday Bliss 2013

Celebrating Gurumayi’s Birthday

An Account by Elizabeth Greig
Shree Muktananda Ashram
June 24, 2013

On June 24, I was not able to participate in the Celebration Satsang at the Siddha Yoga meditation center; I had to be at home that day. During the day, I practiced intense smarana. I felt that I was very present and was a participant at the satsang, even while I was at home. It's very true what Elizabeth says, I was there too!

Thank you for this beautiful account.

Reading about Gurumayi's Birthday Celebration brought me back to the days when I was a sevite in Shree Muktananda Ashram. I'm filled with remembrance, longing, and love. And I'm there with everyone again celebrating Gurumayi's Birthday.

Thank you, Gurumayi, for always giving your love and grace.

The exquisite share from Elizabeth was so full of love and consideration for all of us around the world. The detail with which Gurumayi’s Birthday satsang was shared had me feeling I was in Shri Nilaya hall for each one of those glorious moments. It was so heartwarmingly inclusive. It is clear each devotee matters so very much wherever we are, whoever we are, whatever we are doing—we are held close.

I wrote down the questions the Swamis offered as helpful contemplations: “Who is the Guru to me?” “How have Gurumayi's teachings changed my life?” Bringing my focus to these questions will keep me feeling as if I am sitting in Shri Nilaya—connected and close.

As Elizabeth suggested, I drew a heart in the air with my eyes closed—it is another powerful way to connect to the heart, for sure.

Thank you, Gurumayi, for your life, for your love. Thank you for this month-long opportunity to celebrate it with you.

It was so wonderful, Elizabeth, to read your sharing that Gurumayi invited us in and that we were present in Shri Nilaya. It made me aware that it is also the other way around. We are there, and Gurumayi is here, where we live, many miles away from Shree Muktananda Ashram.

We feel Gurumayi’s wisdom, guidance, love, and sweetness in our own surroundings, in our own hearts.

Reading Elizabeth Greig's account of the Birthday Celebration with Gurumayi at Shree Muktananda Ashram, I felt I was present and immersed in all of the feelings, images, sounds, fragrances, and tastes almost as vividly as if I'd actually been there. At the same time I am here, in my family's dining room, sitting at my computer, and my husband is in his reclining chair writing on his computer.
This is a profound experience for me that now happens frequently in my life. My consciousness of "I" easily releases and dissolves into our essential ocean of oneness, and our oneness as a sangham with our beloved Guru. And then, just as easefully, the "I" merges back into the dharma of my householder life, which is a part of that same oneness. I am left with the experience that all of the places to which the "I" goes are one, a continuous ocean of bliss.
How fortunate we are to learn to live in the Truth with our precious jagadguru. Thank you, dearest Gurumayi, for the inestimable gift of your presence on this planet and in our lives!

A million thanks for this beautiful account and for reminding us that even though we might be far away physically, we are always close to the Guru.
Retracing a heart shape to remember the love and connection with the Guru—what a shining gift!
Thank you, beloved Gurumayi!

We were away from home, traveling in Tuscany, Italy, during Gurumayi's Birthday.  We remembered her Birthday by chanting Shri Guru Gita at the railway station in Lucca, Italy. It rained several times that day and we saw two brilliant rainbows that traversed the entire expanse of the sky in Florence, Italy. We felt blessed to feel Gurumayi’s presence and to be part of the global community celebrating with her.

When I read the account of the celebration by Elizabeth Greig, very unexpectedly my heart burst open with love and I was filled with a deep feeling of longing and recognition. It was as if I were experiencing the words satyam shivam sundaram myself.

As I read the account of Gurumayi's Birthday Celebration, I observed that my heart was filled with bliss. Again and again, I kept asking myself who Gurumayi is to me, and this came to mind: A perfect Guru who has always taught me through her teachings how to live my life.
It was taught to us in A Sweet Surprise satsang that the mantra protects the one who repeats it. For me, Gurumayi has protected me so many times. Gurumayi is not different from the mantra; she is the mantra.
As I was driving this evening, I started to chant Jay Jay Muktananda, remembering Baba's image with today's virtue. After some time, I felt Gurumayi was with me, chanting along with me. Gurumayi is my constant companion.

Every day since June 24th, our beloved Gurumayi's Birthday, I've seen heart shapes in the clouds above the small town where I live: big and white, sunset-hued, small and lacy. Intuitively, I knew that this is Gurumayi's love for me, but I still wondered at this phenomenon.
As I read the account of Gurumayi's Birthday, I am filled with great awe at the synchronicity of the heart-shape events. My mind becomes completely still as I ponder the mystery of the Guru.

With a grateful and loving heart, I offer my thanks for this lovely description of Gurumayi's Birthday Bliss Celebration! And bliss it is! Gurumayi’s beauty, strength, understanding, and wisdom come through every word, and the love that permeates the air around Gurumayi is palpable in this wonderfully descriptive message of her birthday festivities.
Though far away, Gurumayi is here and I am there.
With love and respect I thank all the Swamis and participants for helping to share this scintillating joy that reaches out to all of us.

Thank you to Elizabeth for the magnificent account of Gurumayi's Birthday satsang. The detail and description came so alive for those of us who were not physically present. Elizabeth’s ability to share what is in her heart enriches my own experience. The ocean of love that is born of Gurumayi's intention is palpable in her words.
I agree with Swami Ishwarananda 100%: “How fortunate we are that we have found Gurumayi and that we have the willingness to follow her teachings.”

Reading this account of Gurumayi's Birthday Celebration, I experience such yearning—a beautiful yearning.

I was there!
Reading Elizabeth Greig's description of the celebration of Gurumayi's Birthday in Shri Nilaya, I felt in my heart I was there. I saw the Swamis, I traced the shape of the heart with my arms, I chanted Om Namo Bhagavate Muktanandaya, and I ate the cake!
Indeed, I'm so fortunate to have Gurumayi as my Guru. After I received shaktipat initiation, I started to live a satyam shivam sundaram life.

Oh, what a beautiful description of the Birthday Celebrations. I was transported there. And even though the celebration had already taken place on the 24th, it is still very alive, I am sure, in every Siddha Yoga student’s heart!

As soon as I thought about the question, "Who is Gurumayi to me?" I was flooded with love and gratitude. I spend a lot of time alone, but I never feel alone when I remember Gurumayi. She has been my anchor over the years, and I know that she is eternally my best friend. She is always there with endless love and wisdom when I turn to her within, and even when my mind is on other things, she often surprises me with a teaching or some other sign of her constant presence.

As I was reading the Birthday Celebration letter, I could feel that I was present there every moment. And I could experience Gurumayi's love and her presence here.
No matter how far away we are, Gurumayi reaches out to us and acknowledges our birthday wishes. I could draw the symbol of love in the air and experience the love.
Thank you, Gurumayi, for being with us and showing us the way at all times.

Thank you for the sweet and generous sharing about Gurumayi’s Birthday Celebration in Shree Muktananda Ashram! As I read each word, I felt wrapped in the Guru’s love and the love of her devotees.
After sitting with the account and savoring it, I went off to do my food shopping for the week at the local markets. A mundane activity was transformed into a sublime experience as I kept remembering things from the account, such as Gurumayi’s sweeping heart-shaped embrace of her devotees, the swami talks, the description of the cake and how Gurumayi interacted with it, and more. So much bliss bubbling up as I selected my fruit and vegetables for the week!
