Muktabodha Indological Research Institute

The Muktabodha Institute is an independent non-profit foundation established in 1997, dedicated to the study and preservation of the ancient scriptural wisdom of India. This vast cultural and spiritual legacy, in addition to being an expression of timeless religious experience, is the foundation of several important schools of philosophical thought in the world today.

To date, however, only a fraction of this legacy's sacred texts have been translated and published. Under the auspices of the Muktabodha Institute, scholars from around the world are exploring and interpreting these very significant yet previously inaccessible works.

History of Muktabodha

Muktabodha is a Sanskrit term that means "the wisdom of the liberated one" and refers to the state of supreme freedom described by the ancient sages.

The vision for Muktabodha Institute arose out of the educational activities of Gurudev Siddha Peeth, the ashram founded in 1962 in Ganeshpuri, India, by Swami Muktananda, the spiritual leader who introduced Siddha Yoga meditation to the West.

In 1997, under the guidance of Swami Chidvilasananda, the Institute was formally established to foster and encourage the preservation and study of ancient texts of India. One branch is incorporated as an educational trust in India, and one as a non-profit educational organization in the United States. Each branch has its own academic scholars who hold, or have held, senior university teaching positions and who have published in the field of Indology.
