Listening to the old devotee’s persistent request to visit the Shiva temple in Kashi brought up my personal list of desires. And as the story continued, I heard exactly what I needed to hear and recognize: that Bade Baba always appears magically, right before I start to feel lost, reminding me that Shiva is in my own heart.

I offer pranam to Bade Baba and to Gurumayi ji for keeping this teaching alive.

I was deeply touched by this story. It also reminded me of when I went to Gurudev Siddha Peeth for a Pilgrimage to the Heart Retreat. As I stood before the statue of Bade Baba and sang the Shiva Arati, Bade Baba’s form disappeared for a moment and in its place I saw a beautiful antelope. In the center, between its horns, there was a blazing light that expanded, shining in all directions. At the same time a light within my heart expanded, leaving me in a state of wonderful bliss.

Thank you, Gurumayi, for this story and for reminding me of this experience.
