Sumant Martinez began following the Siddha Yoga path in Mexico City in 1982. He and his wife, Therese, have been serving on staff at Shree Muktananda Ashram since June, 2014; Sumant offers seva in the Siddha Yoga Music Department as a drummer, percussionist, and instrument specialist.

Sumant previously served on staff at Shree Muktananda Ashram between 1999 and 2004, offering seva in the Food Services Department and Products Department. From 2004 to 2005, he served on staff at the Siddha Yoga Ashram in Oakland, where he offered seva in the bookstore.

Sumant is a licensed soccer coach and has a master of science in sports and exercise psychology from California State University at Long Beach.
