Delving into the Study of Gurumayi’s Message

The Power of Repeated Participation in Sweet Surprise

Delving into the study

Over the years, I have learned that through a conscious approach to Gurumayi’s Message, I can genuinely engage with it and concretely apply the Guru’s wisdom to every aspect of my life. Here, I want to share with you some of the approaches to studying, practicing, and imbibing Gurumayi’s Message for the year that have brought me much joy and fulfillment. Perhaps this will inspire you too!

The initial step for me is to formulate an intention for a study plan. The central part of this study plan is to commit to participating in Sweet Surprise several times throughout the year. My experience with this approach became a strong source of encouragement to refine and apply what I was learning through the grace of my Guru.

I scheduled days, “the Golden Sundays” as I called them, precious moments to gather new momentum for my ongoing journey of discovery. Every six weeks, on a Sunday, I would be in Gurumayi’s company as I participated once again in Sweet Surprise—revisiting her teachings, refreshing the accuracy of my understanding, and continuing to receive further directions and insights for my inner growth. At times, I was astonished to see how a teaching would resonate as if I was hearing it for the first time. At other times, a familiar teaching would penetrate subtler levels of my awareness.

One “Golden Sunday” after participating in Sweet Surprise, I went for a swim. Listening to my breath as I rhythmically pulled my arms through the water, one of the teachings from Gurumayi’s Message talk arose in my awareness. I could hear Gurumayi’s voice, her words filling my being with a sense of ease. Later I wrote in my journal: “Oh my mind, be serene. You are loved, never judged, always understood and welcomed in your house within. Recognize the beauty of your true greatness, grow in the understanding of your divine nature.” This was the beginning of a new, more compassionate and beneficial relationship with my mind.

Invariably, each time I participated in Sweet Surprise, I renewed my enthusiasm and passion to practice Gurumayi’s Message. Even when the circumstances of life seemed to challenge my study schedule, I would recall the initial resolution to participate in Sweet Surprise that day, and make sure to sustain my commitment.

Another way I made multiple participation in Sweet Surprise a priority was to seek the support of a Siddha Yoga student who had a study plan similar to mine. At the beginning of each week, we would meet via a video call and talk about how we had applied the teachings of Gurumayi’s Message during the previous week. These lively conversations enhanced a mutual sense of responsibility for our shared study. We listened to each other, we inspired each other, and we learned from each other. I realized that many insights into the subtle meanings of Gurumayi’s teachings would not have been easily accessible to me without the help of my study buddy, and each time I participated in Sweet Surprise, it brought further momentum and confidence to our practice of Gurumayi’s Message.

Repeated participation in Sweet Surprise has strengthened the power of my intention and made me deeply appreciate the beneficial impact of Gurumayi’s teachings on myself, my family, and my work. I look forward to many more Golden Days!
