When I read Gurumayi’s teaching “The flavors of time,” I reflected that some moments in time seem sweet, others bitter, some harmonious, and others hard to swallow. My sadhana has taught me that, through my thoughts and actions, I create these moments and their flavors.

I understand that, as I experience each “flavor of time,” I can support its subtle action by accepting it. I can try to see each flavor as a way to nourish or cleanse my body, mind, and soul. This will enable me to savor the one that I truly am, the one that I am gradually becoming through the grace of my beloved Guru.

I have noticed that there are certain foods which at first taste bland or bitter. Yet, when I chew these foods thoroughly, they actually take on a lovely sweet flavor.

So too, I have experienced that there have been times in my life that initially seemed boring or unpleasant but were transformed into moments of wonder, love, and peace through my practice of meditation.

I give thanks for all “the flavors of time” that have nourished my sadhana and encouraged me to travel deeper into my own heart.

Gradually, over the decades of my sadhana, I have begun to experience a sweet nectar when I am absorbed in the Self.

This nectar is sweeter than honey and resonates with bliss. For me, this is one of my favorite “flavors of time.” When I experience these moments, I am absorbed in devotion and gratitude for the Guru.
