I was so moved by the gentle, sweet connection between Satyakama Jabala and his Guru, by the mutual respect and devotion between Guru and disciple, from their first encounter onward. The depth of this relationship on the part of both—the palpable trust and shared inner commitment to the Truth—brought me the sweetest feeling of tenderness and gratitude for my own relationship with my Guru.

I love this story. As I read it, I remembered the first time I saw Gurumayi. Like Satyakama, who upon meeting his Guru, “recognized his own heart’s longing,” when I went for darshan for the first time and looked into Gurumayi’s eyes, I felt I was looking into an ocean of peace without a ripple. Such peace had been my heart’s desire. And even though I could not yet put it into words, I knew that this meeting was the answer to my heart’s longing.
