Meditation with the Surya Gayatri Mantra

The Surya Gayatri, also known as the Adi Gayatri, is an invocation that first appeared in the Rig Veda, an ancient scripture of India. It is considered the original and principal mantra among the Gayatri mantras dedicated to various deities.

This mantra honors Surya Devata, also known as Savitri, the lord of the sun. As the effulgence that brings life to and illumines all activities in the world, Savitri represents the supreme light of Consciousness—the Self of all.

In A Sweet Surprise Satsang on January 1, 2018, Gurumayi introduced meditating with the Surya Gayatri as a way to practice her Message for 2018 – Satsang. On this page, you are invited to further engage with this practice.

As you meditate, you will hear the Surya Gayatri mantra recited in the Vibhas raga. This raga is joyful and energetic, like the first birdcalls of the day.

To prepare, take a comfortable and steady posture. Breathe freely, and let the muscles in the back of your neck soften and lengthen. Allow your body to be open and relaxed. When you’re ready, click play below to meditate with the Surya Gayatri mantra.
