Conversing with my own mind was a deeply moving experience. Previously, I had rarely appreciated my mind. Often, when any positive thought emerged, I immediately credited my heart for it. Similarly, if a negative one came up, I tended to automatically blame my mind for it. With this sort of attitude, how could I expect my mind to be my friend?

The dharana beautifully explains the ways to nourish my mind, and I am determined to do so. I intend to nourish it through the regular practice of meditation and by regularly studying the Siddha Yoga teachings.

When I engage with this dharana, I understand that I have nurtured the bond of friendship with my mind as I have advanced on this beautiful path. Through studying the Guru’s teachings, repeating the name of God, thinking well of myself and others, and meditating, I have become my mind’s true friend. In turn, the state of happiness that permeates my being is a gift that I receive from my loyal companion.
