Reflecting on my body and my life as a whole sheds light on Baba’s teaching for me.
When I place my attention on a specific part of my body, that part is illumined, yet I am simultaneously aware that I inhabit the whole of my body.
Similarly, when I expand my focus and think of my life in its entirety, I see that my life is made up of countless thoughts, feelings, relationships, and events, many of which seem to take place outside of myself. Yet, guided by Baba’s teaching, I see that that each of these elements takes place within my perception.
Immersing myself in this awareness via the dharana, brought me deep peace and relaxation.

This teaching by Baba calls to mind one of my most treasured practices: Each morning before meditation, I recite a sentence from the last verse in Shankaracharya’s hymn
Nirvana Shatkam, which says, “I am all-pervasive; I am everywhere.”
In this manner I invoke Baba’s teaching and identify with being the Self of all and not being limited by time and space. As I rise from meditation, I take this awareness with me, as much as I can hold, into my daily activities. The benefits of this practice are expansive and joy-filled.
Baba’s teachings always lead me inward toward the nondual Truth of my own Self and the nature of the universe.

I am so thankful for the daily “Teachings to Live By.” Each of them gives me the time to be still, to connect with my inner Self, and to put everything in its true perspective and its true light. After listening to the teaching, engaging with the
dharana, and meditating, I always feel so much better!
