    Exquisite beauty in nature’s palette.
Ecstatic joy in a sea of golden leaves.
Purity of love in the heart of a child.
God is always seated next to us…
    Seen or unseen.

This morning as I watched videos of Gurumayi celebrating Deepavali,
a great sweetness enveloped me and this poem arose from within.

The Power of a Tea Light

I lit a tea light for Deepavali
It burns all day on my puja
    reminding me
    of the beautiful beings that
    have illuminated my path
    through this life
    with their teachings.

    The flame is just one.
    A humble celebration
    within the enormous city.
    However, this tiny tea light
has the power to transform my
    environment and make it
    a sanctuary.
    I turn within,
    knowing that the
    important light
    I have to keep lit
    every day is
    the light of my awareness.
    I meditate.
