About Swami Akhandananda

Swami Akhandananda began practicing the Siddha Yoga teachings in 1974, when he was a teenager. Two years later he made the commitment to offer seva full-time— first in the Siddha Yoga Ashram in Oakland, California, and later in Gurudev Siddha Peeth and Shree Muktananda Ashram. In 1982, he took monastic vows to become a Siddha Yoga Swami.

An experienced Siddha Yoga meditation teacher, Swami Akhandananda inspires students with his dedication to Siddha Yoga study and contemplation, and his great love for the Siddha Yoga practices, especially chanting. Swami ji has taught extensively in Siddha Yoga Shaktipat Intensives, satsangs, courses and retreats around the world.

After participating in Meditation Session II on the website, I began to contemplate the word luminescence in Gurumayi’s Message for 2019. And lo and behold, suddenly I saw it!

It was not a luminescence like a bright light in a Hollywood movie. Neither did I see it with my physical eyes. What I began to perceive around me, in such objects as a teacup, a tree, and my living room furniture, was a subtle presence. The awareness of this presence filled me with joy and with peace.

I love this session. I have been listening to it frequently to guide me into meditation, and to guide me into my daily life. The quote by Gurumayi chosen for study is full of wisdom and compassion. I will be contemplating it for a long time. Each time I listen to the session, I feel more and more comfortable with the landscape of my mind, and I am taking what I have learned into the world. During the meditation for this session, I had the experience of a vast stillness, dark and quiet. On top of this "landscape" were my thoughts, which would come up. In the past, these thoughts might have taken up my entire field of vision. But this time I could just watch them come and go and I was far less involved with them.
