Birthday Bliss, the month of Gurumayi Chidvilasananda’s Birthday, has arrived. At Shree Muktananda Ashram, nature is celebrating. Trees are wearing their full cloak of fresh green leaves; flowers adorn shrubs and tiny plants. And, as you will see in the images above, dandelions are sprouting across the Ashram’s sacred grounds.

It is Gurumayi’s wish that each day of Birthday Bliss, everyone easily experience bliss. So that you may have a sweet entry, a doorway, into this experience, Gurumayi is inviting you to make a wish on these dandelions, as their feathery seeds scatter in the wind.

This beautiful gallery of dandelions brought me back to my childhood when my mom used to tell me, “Just blow on the flower and make a wish.” Until this very day, I still like to pick a dandelion with its fluffy seeds, blow on it, and make a wish. This makes me feel timeless, placeless, ageless.

Yesterday, as I watched the slide show of these dandelions, my heart went to Shree Muktananda Ashram, the sacred abode where I had the privilege to serve as a young adult. I remembered, with longing, my time in the Ashram and with Gurumayi. I recalled how I had been uncertain of my own worthiness.

Then I watched the beautiful video of Gurumayi chanting. While I was chanting along, a shower of dandelions descended past my window. I thought I must have imagined it.

Today, I went to the Siddha Yoga path website to see the virtue of the day, and, again, when I looked out the window, I saw a shower of dandelions. This time, I opened the balcony door and watched them flying. It seemed as if they were my Guru coming to visit me. I placed the flowers on my puja and stayed in silence with a mix of wonder and gratitude. It was as if these dandelions were saying, “Gurumayi is here. She is watching over you, she is with you and you are worthy of love, care, and protection.”

Recently, I spent a week on a pilgrimage to Lourdes, nestled in the Pyrenees mountains of southwestern France. I brought my spiritual journal with me and was able to contemplate the sadguna vaibhava every day, just as I performed all my Siddha Yoga practices. Afterward, I would go to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes.

In the large gardens of the sanctuary, I found so many dandelions, and my thoughts turned to Gurumayi—to the happiness of her birthday and to my wishes for her.

Each day, when I blew the seeds and they dispersed in the wind, I prayed for Gurumayi, and I felt so loved and deeply moved. I felt such a deep connection with Gurumayi that one day as we were singing Ave Maria, I realized I was singing “Hare Maria.” I laughed so much with wonder and a certainty that Gurumayi was also singing in my heart.

I thought that we are all one in God’s love, and having this experience every moment during the month of Gurumayi’s birthday was pure bliss.

Growing up, I learned that dandelions were ordinary, problematic weeds. People wanted to get rid of them because they invaded their nice green lawns. Still, I loved their magical puff of seeds!

Today, as I was appreciating the prolific beauty of dandelions, I contemplated the way Gurumayi has transformed my perception of them. I realized that these “ordinary, problematic weeds” are a perfect symbol for the way Gurumayi has transformed my perception of life!

From the moment I received shaktipat-diksha, a whole new experience of reality unfolded for me. Life was no longer ordinary and mundane. A multifaceted, awe-inspiring richness was revealed—a different level of aliveness that I had intuitively known existed but didn’t know how to find.

I was curious to learn more about dandelions, only to discover that they are richly valuable as vital pollinators, for soil health, as food, and in traditional medicine.

I am thankful to Gurumayi for this beautiful gift that continues to evolve my perception and deepen my awe and appreciation of nature’s astounding beauty.

What an amazing gallery! One of the videos of a broad field of dandelions made me realize that we can make so many wishes! I felt the prayers and wishes from people I know streaming into this field, from around the world. Wow.

Some of the wishes that arose in me were these:

May we all continue to learn to take the best care of our home, the Earth.

    May hope triumph over despair.

May we feel the sunshine of grace joyfully blessing us, always.

    Watson, Australia

    My birthday wishes are these:

May humanity always seek contact with enlightened beings who teach the path of love and dharma.

May the knowledge and experience of the highest Self, one’s own divinity, and the capacity to love be forever, nurtured, shared, and put into practice by people everywhere.

I am grateful for these amazing images of dandelion seeds. How delicate and fragile each seed appears! Yet it throws itself with exuberance to the wind and falls to the earth to start a new plant. These tiny seeds sing to me of joyful renewal, steadfastness, and intention. These qualities well up inside me when I do the practices.

We are continually blessed with so much support in taking our yoga deeper through the Siddha Yoga spiritual practices. This website is a treasure!

Looking at the little dandelions which are standing strong while the wind blows “their feathery seeds” away, I was reminded that I can stay connected to grace while things change continually. The Guru’s love is always there.

May everyone everywhere always experience radiant, optimal, vibrant, and vital health!
