श्रीगुरु-उपासना
Veneration of Shri Guru

Audio recording by Ami Bansal
For me, “the path shown by Shri Guru” is the path of truth, love, discipline, and moderation.
At the beginning of my Siddha Yoga journey, Gurumayi told me to go back to Switzerland and “live an easy life.” What “an easy life” means to me has been a lifelong contemplation.
Gurumayi’s guidance helps me to make the right decision in every situation; I have learned that what appears beautiful and promising is not always the easy path. Choosing the easy path—rather than that which binds me, weighs me down, burdens me, confuses me, or leads me astray—helps me to shape my life with mindfulness, love, and clarity.

Just yesterday in my sadhana circle, we were looking at a photograph of the Guru’s feet and sharing our understandings of what “Shri Guru’s lotus feet” symbolize. Today, while listening to “shri guru marga,” I remembered how we honor the Guru’s sandals by singing Shri Guru Paduka Panchakam, before our recitation of Shri Guru Gita.
As I reflect on the significance of the Guru’s feet and the Guru’s sandals, my understanding of the Guru’s path—including her guidance, commands, compassion, tenderness, and firmness—opens. I then know the path that I myself must follow.
It is so meaningful for me to honor “the path shown by Shri Guru” by increasingly embodying her teachings.

Shri Guru shows me the path for my spiritual journey and also guides me through countless everyday situations and challenges. I receive direction through the Guru’s teachings, practices, and inner guidance.
As a Siddha Yoga student, I see it as my responsibility to listen closely to this guidance so that I can recognize “the path shown by the Guru” clearly and then walk this path with steady commitment—guided by the teachings and sustained by consistent practice.

For me, “the path shown by Shri Guru” is an internal path that awakens the realization of my true Self. This path—in Sanskrit, marga—reveals the true nature of my Shri Guru and of this world.
Shri guru marga is the guiding light that directs my every decision. Shri guru marga helps to bring rhythm and harmony to my mind. Shri guru marga teaches me what my true dharma is and guides me on how to act in accordance with it.
I am continually grateful to Shri Gurumayi for showing me this inner path.

Each day, I have loved finding different ways to engage with the beautiful aspects of “Veneration of Shri Guru.”
Sometimes, these phrases evoke an image of Shri Guru that I take into meditation. Other times I am inspired to study the terms for the day to see what I can learn. Often, I use them to look for simple ways that I can remember Shri Guru throughout the day. For example, when out walking, I put my attention on the footpath I was walking on and saw it as “the path shown by Shri Guru,” which brought such a smile to my face.
Practicing like this has felt light, effortless, and full of love. It has brought freshness to the ways that I honor Shri Guru during this sacred month of Gurupurnima.

I am very clear and confident that “the path shown by Shri Guru” is filled with light, knowledge, love, gratitude, protection, and happiness. Above all, I experience that my Shri Guru is “holding my hand” with immense tenderness and walking beside me at every step on this journey.
As I walk this sacred path, I discover that the destination is not somewhere outside me. Through the grace of my Shri Guru, I am guided inward, toward the divine love, wisdom, and bliss that already reside within. Every step on this path is a step closer to my own heart, which, to me, is the abode of my Guru and the source of all joy.

Ever since I met the Guru, I have felt the existence of a path that is beautiful and tender and that inspires me to be aware of the needs of others.
More and more, as I faithfully engage with the Siddha Yoga practices and embrace the teachings, I’m able to choose actions that align with this tender and beautiful path.
Another aspect that I love about “the path shown by Shri Guru” is that it always brings me back to the Self—even when I am heading off in a different direction.
