When I hear and repeat the words “shri guru shakti,” I’m reminded of the universal power of God, since God, Guru, and the Self are one. The Guru’s shakti is no different from the power of God. It also reminded me of how the Guru, through her compassion, transmits her own energy to a disciple through shaktipat–diksha.

This led me to ask myself: if I carry that same shakti within me, why don’t I feel powerful more of the time? Why do I sometimes fall into low states? The answer I came to was that this is due to maya and my own karma.

Yet the shakti, awakened within me by the Guru, supports me to do sadhana. Through the collaboration of my efforts and Guru’s grace, the Guru removes my ignorance and grants me the light of true knowledge. What a mysterious process sadhana is!

It is the Guru’s shakti that allows me to become one with the Lord.

Listening to the beautiful words, “shri guru shakti,” brought an immediate physical energy to my body.

It is amazing and wonderful to hear and read these words, which so quickly allow me to feel the Guru’s presence! I just love knowing I can experience Gurumayi’s vibration—her shakti—inside myself so easily!

My experience of receiving “Shri Guru Shakti” is of a benevolent power so profound that I am filled with light, love, a divine confidence, contentment, clarity, and calm. I am seated in my fullness, not wanting for anything, and able to go with the flow of what is needed in the present moment.

I want to be open to receive the Guru’s shakti, to drink from the fountain of the Guru’s love. I have found that if I establish a steady and easy posture and connect with my breath, while also connecting to the earth (if I am standing) or sitting back in my chair (if I am seated)—I make space for the Guru’s shakti to flow through me. Inspiration will often arise, or a feeling of contentment and peace.

May the gentle flame of Shri Guru’s grace

    Shine brightly within me.

May that divine shakti catch me on

    Everlasting fire.

May that radiance burnish and hearten

    My every moment.

    May love nurture love.

    May I become that light

    In the steady, bright flame.
