On the Siddha Yoga path, the month of October is dedicated to remembering and honoring Baba Muktananda, his remarkable life, and his legacy. It was during this month that Baba’s life culminated with mahasamadhi—the great merging with supreme Consciousness.

From an early age, Baba was moved by a deep yearning to know God. He dedicated himself to sadhana, spiritual practice, seeking to attain union with the divinity that exists in all hearts. Through the purity of his self-effort and the grace of his spiritual Master, Bhagavan Nityananda, Baba became a Siddha Yoga Guru, with the power to awaken others through the gift of shaktipat initiation.

The Siddha Yoga path is unique in that it is propelled by shaktipat, the awakening of a seeker’s inner power, Kundalini Shakti, by the grace of the Siddha Yoga Guru. Once Kundalini has been awakened, one’s meditation becomes natural and easeful. The inner power guides and supports our efforts to go beyond the limitations of the conditioned mind to the knowledge of one’s own deepest Self, pure Consciousness.

As you read Baba’s teachings, reflect on what you can learn from Baba’s words that will enhance your study and practice of meditation.
